At Larimar we like to offer more than just a riding facility to our clientele. Since the beginning we have understood that the “barn family” is critical for success in a show ring, but also on a personal level per rider. We’re lucky and grateful to each client and staff member, because they show dedication, support, and focus every day they come through our doors. Larimar provides a beautiful, state of the art facility, but it is the bonds & heart within that sets us apart from the rest. We strive for everyone to feel welcome and comfortable, because we understand that’s the best environment for people to learn and grow in.

Larimar Show Stables is owned and operated by Jill Curtis and she is available for all types of training programs. Raised in Attica, Indiana, Jill traveled east as a teenager to pursue her equestrian education. She has worked at numerous farms up and down the east coast, most notably working for Todd Minikus and Nona Garson. She has 15 plus years of showing experience and teaching in the hunter, equitation, and jumper rings. A good work ethic and a love of all things equine drove her to build the new facility which is currently the home of Larimar Show Stables. In addition to a fanatical need to continue her equine knowledge, Jill attended both the University of Connecticut and the University of Virginia.

Shannon McDonaldShannon McDonald

Barn Manager and Assistant Trainer

Shannon began riding in her hometown of Pleasantville, NY when she was five years old. Her love of horses and commitment to the sport landed Shannon her first working-student position working for Lendon Gray when she was only twelve years old. While working under Lendon, Shannon developed a solid foundation in the fundamentals of flatwork and deepened her knowledge of horse care. After graduating high school, Shannon was hired as a groom by international Grand Prix rider Todd Minikus. As an integral part of Team Minikus, Shannon cared for Todd’s top Grand Prix horses, including Quality Girl during the time she won the 1 Million Dollar Grand Prix at HITS on the Hudson in 2014. Her time at Todd’s prepped her in the art of schooling and conditioning both green and experienced horses. Most recently, Shannon has worked as a Barn Manager and Trainer at Boulder Brook Equestrian Center in Scarsdale, NY. At Boulder Brook Shannon continued to develop her craft of schooling and preparing show horses for the competition ring. Excited by the chance to help develop an up and coming equestrian facility, Shannon could not be more delighted to have joined the Larimar Team!
